Medway Hospital (UK) presented results from v-TAC validation study at BTS Winter Meeting 2018

In December 2018, a team of respiratory physicians from the Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, UK, presented the results from the v-TAC clinical study under the title: “Optimising Acute Non-Invasive Ventilation Care in the NHS; the v-TAC approach”.

Authors: P. Kamperidis, S. Ranmuthu, P. Archer, L. Vincent-Smith

The presentation addressed the v-TAC method as an alternative to Arterial blood gas as v-TAC provides arterialised blood gas values from venous blood. The results showed that v-TAC converts venous blood gas values to arterial blood gas values with great accuracy and has the potential to optimise management of non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Additional, v-TAC enables a nurse-led pathway which could enable nurse autonomy in setting up and managing NIV.
